Buying a Digital Camera for Print?
Print quality us usually around 300 DPI, A6 size paper is 4.13 by 5.83 inches.
It's just a math problem at this point.
300 * 4.13 = 1239
300 * 5.83 = 1739
1239 * 1739 = 2,167,011
In other words, 2 megapixels would be about enough if it were capturing in that aspect ratio, which most cameras do not do. Your usual 2 MP digicam is 1600x1200. Most digital cameras are 4:3 rather than print film's 3:2.
A6 is closer a 4x6 photograph's aspect ratio than a 4:3 monitor's.
However a little cropping of your average 3megapixel digital camera should manage. I like the Canon A70 personally. If you need something a little closer to professional grade, the Canon EOS 300D is a damned fine DSLR camera for 900 bucks. The digital camera my sister and I lust after is the Nikon D2H. But that fucker is 3500 bucks, plus lenses.
You might want to take a look at www.dpreview.com and see if anything there strikes your fancy. Nikon is supposed to be coming out with a sub $1000 DSLR to combat canon's new baby. And Nikon tends to make better SLR and DSLR cameras
